Disabled Person's Bus Pass

  • The Disabled Travel Pass allows disabled individuals to travel for free on buses in England during off-peak hours. This includes travel between 9:30 a.m. and 11 p.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends.

  • Your Disabled Pass:

    • Free bus travel is available in all of England from 09:30 to 23:00 on weekdays, at all times during the weekend, and on bank holidays.

    Some regions where your card is issued may have additional benefits

    Here are just a few regions that may offer additional benefits:

    • Travel South Yorkshire: Your pass is valid for free travel on buses and Northern Trains within South Yorkshire.

      • Free bus travel all day within South Yorkshire.

      • Free train travel within South Yorkshire and some services start or end in West Yorkshire.

      • Your boarding or alighting station must be in South Yorkshire. Your pass must be issued by Travel South Yorkshire to get the benefit.

    • West Yorkshire Metro: Free bus travel all day within West Yorkshire.

      • Half price on trains at non-peak times within the region only.

    • East Riding: Free Bus travel all day within the East Riding of Yorkshire Area.

      • You can use your pass on rail journeys between any railway station in the East Riding between 9:30 am and 11 pm on local services.

  • You may be eligible for a pass; you may meet the following criteria:

    • Blind or partially sighted

    • You are deaf or without speech

    • Have a learning disability

    • A disability that significantly and for a long time impairs your ability to walk.

    • Do not have arms or have long-term loss of the use of your arms

    • If you have been or would be denied a driver’s license for medical reasons (except for persistent drug and alcohol misuse), please remember this information.

    • Have a Blue Badge parking permit

  • The best way to apply for a disabled person's bus pass is to visit your local council website. You can also click or tap here to apply, which will take you to the UK government website. There, you can enter your postcode and be directed to your local council website to complete the application process

    Some council may have eligibility checker which could issue you a letter to confirm you automatically qualify.

  • It is free to apply for the pass. There may be charges to replace the pass if you have lost it.

    The application process for West Yorkshire may differ slightly from other regions, but the general process is similar. You can visit a travel centre or contact your local council, which may be able to advise on additional things.

Disabled Persons Railcard

  • The Disabled Persons Railcard is a discount card that offers reduced fares by 1/3 discount for travel on the National Rail network in Great Britain. The card also benefits one other adult travelling with you, giving them a 1/3 discount on their rail fare. You can use the pass any time of the day.

  • Your Disabled Person Railcard:

    • 1/3 discount on travelling on the train network in the UK.

    • An adult companion travelling with you also gets 1/3 off their rail fare

    • You can use the Disabled Person Railcard at any time of the day.

    • Your Railcard can also sometimes get discounts on restaurants and hotels.

    • Receive Personal Independence Payment (PIP) or Adult Disability Payment (ADP)

    • Receive Disability Living Allowance (DLA) or Child Disability Payment (CDP) at either:
      - The higher or lower rate for the mobility component or
      - The higher or middle rate for the care component

    • Visual impairment

    • Hearing impairment

    • Epilepsy

  • The cost for a pass is the same for a Physical card or a Digital one, which can be accessed via a phone.

    • 1 Year pass: £20

    • 3 Year pass: £54

Blue Badge

  • Blue Badges are designed to assist individuals with disabilities or health conditions by allowing them to park closer to their destination.

  • Your Blue Badge:

    • Free parking in a disabled parking space unless a sign states otherwise.

    • You can also park on yellow lines for up to 3 hours if there isn’t a ban on loading.

    • Park free at pay-and-display parking meters
      on the street unless a sign states otherwise.

  • Here are a few examples of why you could get it:

    • Receive the higher rate of the mobility component of the Disability Living Allowance (DLA)

    • Receive a Personal Independence Payment (PIP) because you can’t walk more than 50 metres (a score of 8 points or more under the ‘moving around’ activity of the mobility component)
      you are registered blind (severely sight impaired)

    • you receive a Personal Independence Payment (PIP) because you can’t walk more than 50 metres (a score of 8 points or more under the ‘moving around’ activity of the mobility component)

    • you are registered blind (severely sight impaired)

    • you receive the mobility component of PIP and have obtained 10 points specifically for descriptor E under the ‘planning and following journeys’ activity, on the grounds that you are unable to undertake any journey because it would cause you overwhelming psychological distress

    • Someone with a terminal illness

    • Someone receiving a war pensioner’s mobility supplement
      someone on the armed forces compensation scheme (tarrif one to eight with a permanent or substantial disability)
